Hidden Savagery: A Poem About Jack From Lord of the Flies

A boy

Quite the opposite of a first impression

He seems to encompass an entire military within himself

The law, the order, the conformity

And the boiling, savage rebellion just beneath it all

A face

seemingly carved of the same materials as the island

In which his disciples and his disciples to be

Roam amidst

A voice

Despite it’s beautiful potential

He does not show the vulnerability of one with an angel’s voice

Instead a harsh, quivering hum

That will snap at any moment...

A person

That represents us all

Hungry in every way

Whether for power or for meat

Yet somehow still

A boy
